Job Purpose:



  • Devise strategies & suggest actions for product/grade wise growth, positioning, pricing and promotion for new and existing grades

  • Plan and own product/grade PnL and achieve targeted business growth for the product through careful monitoring of trends & competition and market environment (incl. pricing moves by competition)

  • Identify new grade requirements for bulk/diff/traded bulk grades to improve crop yield and quality and validate value proposition with farmer segments & their customers to understand/validate target market size 



  •                                                      Key Accountabilities & Outcomes:


Key Accountability



  • Devise strategies & suggest actions for product/grade wise growth, positioning, pricing and promotion for new and existing grades 

  • Plan and own product/grade PnL and achieve targeted business growth for the product through careful monitoring of trends & competition and market environment (incl. pricing moves by competition) 



  • Identify new grade requirements for bulk/diff/traded bulk grades to improve crop yield and quality and validate value proposition with farmer segments & their customers to understand/validate target market size



  • Major Activities/ Tasks


·      Develop product wise/grade wise branding/packaging (look & feel as well as size)  strategy for new /existing products


·      Develop product/grade  positioning strategy in coordination with Marketing Services Manager & Corp Comm. Teams


·      Set competitive pricing points to address the pricing moves by competition and adjust/propose monthly pricing points for each region basis MOP/NSP/COP analysis


·      Drive business excellence related initiatives (volume discount strategy, MOP based pricing and premium of Mahadhan Power/Differentiated)


·      Identify target districts/crops/farmers/dealers/regions for growth of different grades with support from the analytics team (on dealer analytics, farmer segmentation, micro-market analysis, etc.)


·      Develop portfolio strategy in terms of volumes to be targeted for different grades as well as the mix of Bulk vs. Traded


·      Monitor  lifecycle of every product/grade and take early calls for opportunity maximization


·      Provide technical inputs on product application, messaging and USP (overall communication strategy) to internal  sales/field marketing team as well zonal  training team


·      Spot new business opportunities, potential / untapped markets and to furnish inputs to the Management for informed and effective decision making


·      Manage top-line and bottom-line for respective products and grades


·      Drive business growth, and market share of respective products/grades with strong product, competition and consumer analytics (support from Market Intelligence Team)


·      Develop periodic financial plans and projections (including region wise sales, marketing budget, etc.) and report monthly MIS on achievement vs. Budget


·      Collaborate with cross-functional internal partners - e.g. back-end teams to understand constraints, provide update on competitive moves to optimize back-end costs (e.g. backward integration, new RM sources, RM price trends)


·      Manage spread of various grades across inventory available at the market and the plant


·         Identify new grade requirements for Bulk/Diff./Traded Bulk basis crop/farmer needs for macro/micro nutrients across various growth stages


·         Connect with KOLs and customers of farmers to understand their requirements for new grades


·         Validate value proposition for new grades (at desired price points) with different farmer/crop segments & their customers to understand the target market size


·         Develop business case for the new grade – basis the target premium and target cost of production


·         Liaise with CNB Head, Strategy Head & NPD Head for approval on business case, feasibility of production & timelines basis current new product pipeline


·      Keep oversight of output at each stage of the new product development and ensure conduct market validation of value proposition in case there is any deviation in product quality, benefits, cost, etc during different stages of product development

Education Qualifications / Background



  • ·         B.Sc. (Agriculture / Horticulture / Agronomy)

  • ·         M. Sc. (Agriculture / Horticulture / Agronomy) /MBA (Marketing) / Post Graduate Diploma in Agri Business Management


Relevant and Total Years of Experience



  • ·         18-20 years of work experience in Product Management


   Technical/Functional Expertise



  • ·         Strong understanding of fertilisers market

  • ·         Knowledge of demand forecasting techniques

  • ·         Knowledge of agriculture and fertiliser industry, market trends and scenario

  • ·         Knowledge of government policies on fertilisers and Agri Business

  • ·         Knowledge of marketing management including product pricing and branding

  • ·         Knowledge of imports & exports
